O S\u00edtio Arqueol\u00f3gico do Cerro do Castelo de Alferce \u00e9 um dos mais emblem\u00e1ticos elementos do patrim\u00f3nio hist\u00f3rico da freguesia de Alferce. A escolha do cerro para a instala\u00e7\u00e3o de um povoado fortificado n\u00e3o foi casual. As investiga\u00e7\u00f5es arqueol\u00f3gicas realizadas no local revelam uma ocupa\u00e7\u00e3o humana cont\u00ednua e prolongada, que se estende desde a Pr\u00e9-hist\u00f3ria recente (Idade do Bronze) at\u00e9 ao per\u00edodo medieval isl\u00e2mico, entre os s\u00e9culos IX e XI.<\/p>

Durante a Idade do Bronze, o cerro ter\u00e1 sido utilizado como local de abrigo e controlo do territ\u00f3rio por comunidades agro-pastoris. S\u00e9culos mais tarde, j\u00e1 em \u00e9poca isl\u00e2mica, o local foi transformado num povoado fortificado, integrado na rede defensiva do Algarve ocidental, desempenhando fun\u00e7\u00f5es de prote\u00e7\u00e3o das popula\u00e7\u00f5es rurais e das atividades econ\u00f3micas da regi\u00e3o.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

O SACCA \u00e9 composto por um complexo sistema defensivo constitu\u00eddo por tr\u00eas recintos amuralhados n\u00e3o conc\u00eantricos, adaptados \u00e0 morfologia natural do terreno. As muralhas, constru\u00eddas com pedra local, evidenciam t\u00e9cnicas construtivas caracter\u00edsticas da arquitetura militar isl\u00e2mica, incluindo tro\u00e7os de muralha, poss\u00edveis torres e \u00e1reas habitacionais no interior dos recintos.<\/p>

Desde 2004, o Cerro do Castelo tem sido alvo de campanhas arqueol\u00f3gicas regulares, promovidas pelo Munic\u00edpio de Monchique em colabora\u00e7\u00e3o com universidades e equipas cient\u00edficas. Estes trabalhos t\u00eam permitido aprofundar o conhecimento sobre as diferentes fases de ocupa\u00e7\u00e3o do s\u00edtio, bem como identificar novas estruturas e materiais arqueol\u00f3gicos.<\/p>

Em reconhecimento do seu elevado valor patrimonial, esta \u00e1rea foi classificada como S\u00edtio de Interesse P\u00fablico em 2013, tendo recentemente beneficiado de interven\u00e7\u00f5es de conserva\u00e7\u00e3o e restauro, nomeadamente em tro\u00e7os de muralha, com o objetivo de garantir a sua preserva\u00e7\u00e3o e seguran\u00e7a.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
