\u00e9 o <a href=\"https:\/\/jf-alferce.pt\/?page_id=2549\">S\u00edtio Arqueol\u00f3gico do Cerro do Castelo de Alferce<\/a>, um povoado fortificado situado no topo de uma eleva\u00e7\u00e3o rochosa a cerca de 487 metros de altitude. Este s\u00edtio foi ocupado em diferentes momentos da hist\u00f3ria:<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8211; Evid\u00eancias arqueol\u00f3gicas apontam para ocupa\u00e7\u00f5es desde a Pr\u00e9\u2011hist\u00f3ria recente, com vest\u00edgios da Idade do Bronze, indicando que o local foi usado por comunidades humanas h\u00e1 mais de 3\u202f000 anos.<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8211; Durante os s\u00e9culos IX a XI, o cerro foi transformado numa fortifica\u00e7\u00e3o isl\u00e2mica, utilizada como posi\u00e7\u00e3o defensiva e de vigil\u00e2ncia na regi\u00e3o do Algarve, numa \u00e9poca em que o territ\u00f3rio fazia parte do dom\u00ednio mu\u00e7ulmano.<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8211; Ap\u00f3s a Reconquista Crist\u00e3, o Algarve e Alferce foram incorporados no Reino de Portugal no s\u00e9culo XIII, integrando\u2011se nas estruturas administrativas e econ\u00f3micas do reino.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Este s\u00edtio fortificado, conhecido \u00faltimos anos, projetos de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o arqueol\u00f3gica continuada t\u00eam ampliado significativamente o conhecimento sobre a hist\u00f3ria local.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Desde 2020, o projeto \u201cDa Pr\u00e9\u2011hist\u00f3ria Recente ao Medieval Isl\u00e2mico: antigas ocupa\u00e7\u00f5es humanas no Cerro do Castelo de Alferce\u201d, promovido pelo Munic\u00edpio de Monchique em parceria com universidades e institui\u00e7\u00f5es arqueol\u00f3gicas, tem conduzido campanhas de sondagens e escava\u00e7\u00f5es que vieram a revelar detalhes das muralhas fortificadas e de estruturas interiores do s\u00edtio.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Al\u00e9m disso, em 2025 foi conclu\u00edda uma grande empreitada de conserva\u00e7\u00e3o e restauro de partes da muralha norte, incluindo a reconstru\u00e7\u00e3o de uma torre parcialmente destru\u00edda por intemp\u00e9ries, melhorando a estabilidade do monumento e refor\u00e7ando a sua preserva\u00e7\u00e3o para o Concelho de Monchique em 1773, altura em que passou a pertencer ao novo concelho.
